Resume

Dimitris Efthymiou is a Psychiatrist – Psychotherapist, certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy by the European Association of Behavioural & Cognitive Therapies (EABCT). He has also received extensive education and supervision in Psychopharmacology, Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Group Psychotherapy, and Supportive Psychotherapy.

He was born in 1979 in London, UK, and grew up in Paphos, Cyprus, hometown of his father, with frequent visits to Larissa, Greece, the hometown of his mother. He was raised in the city of Thessaloniki, which is the origin of his name.

He graduated in 2003 from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Hellenic Military Academy. He completed his residency training at the 401 General Military Hospital of Greece in Athens and attended the Health Administration School.

After completing his bachelor studies, he pursued postgraduate degrees in Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Brighton, UK, and Health Administration (MHA) at the University of Phoenix, USA.

He subsequently specialized as a Psychiatrist at the General Hospital of Katerini and the 2nd University Psychiatric Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH).

He received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from the Hellenic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Society, as well as in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the Hellenic Psychodynamic Association. He is a member of the Hellenic Psychiatric Association, the Hellenic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Society, and the Hellenic Psychodynamic Association. He is one of the 3 main researchers-coordinators in Cyprus in collaboration with the University of Nicosia, for the largest international study “Collaborative Outcomes for Health and Functioning during Infection Times” (COH-FIT) that is being conducted simultaneously in 35 countries and concerns the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Mental Health.

He has worked in various positions in both the private and public sectors in Greece and Cyprus. He founded and managed a successful commercial company in the healthcare sector for several years. Subsequently, among other things, he served as a member of the Restructuring of Public Hospitals and the Implementation of the General Health Plan (GHS) in the Republic of Cyprus, Contact Point for Cyprus with the World Health Organization – WHO, Head of the team for the drafting and implementation of the WHO’s “Health Strategy 2020” for Cyprus, member of the Working Group of the Ministry of Health in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union, Head of the Human Resources Department of the Public Hospitals of the Republic of Cyprus, visiting lecturer at the University of Nicosia.

Additionally, he served as Secretary of the Association of Greek Psychiatry Residents of the Hellenic Psychiatric Society and member of the Scientific Council of the Psychiatric Hospital of Thessaloniki.

He is an active member of the Hellenic Society of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychotherapies, the Panhellenic Medical Association, the Medical Association of Thessaloniki, and the Pancyprian Medical Association.

He is married and a father of three children.

 

He enjoys traveling, but his favorite trip is the one he has been on for 5 years with the Clinical Psychologist-Drama Therapist, Synthetic Psychotherapist, Athos Erotocritou.

Additionally, he loves the sea, gardening, cheesemaking, beekeeping, English Setters, and mountaineering.
